After two mapping weeks

falconara osm 09-08-15

That’s how my hometown looks after two weeks of mappping, not bad at all!

I admit I feel a little proud when I see my work nicely rendered on the osm server but unfortunately I can’t tell anybody because nobody knows openstreetmap and even if I try to explain people don’t see the point in “making a copy of google maps”.

Anyway I’m sure that in a couple of years people will start using my map and they won’t even notice :) (and by the way mapping is way too fun).

Inside an Iron Man??? KDE of course!

I know where I am

After years of uncertainty I know where I am: I bought a gps receiver!

GPS receiver

This little guy worked out of the box (no ugly bluetooth) and it also features a nice magnet to stick to my car top (I look like a cop :P).

I immediately took it for a ride and this is the result:

The next step is to use it as a navigator…

Turning 23

As usual around this time of the year I turn one year older and as usual I have to use a calculator to know how old I am: 23
I can’t remember a number that changes so often…

As usual fosdem videos take forever to see the light, so I’m posting the ‘home made’ one from my girlfriend Giulia. Click on the image to download.

It is on my home server so be patient :-)

I don't work for Sun

I don't work for Sun

Well well,
we are back in Italy (sadly), after a 3-days-diet of french fries and ice age weather.
My talk passed way too fast but smoothly, the fosdem guys very pretty excited about the project and will propose it to their university.
I also attended Renzo Davoli’s lighting talk about berkley sockets that I really enjoyed and we managed to talk a little bit about Marionnet italian invasion.
The last talk I saw was about ext4 from Theodore Ts’o, although I wasn’t really on the topic I always appreciate a good speaker.
As my first FLOSS conference I must say I’m impressed by the organization and the whole hacker community that despite what people may think is here to stay and to grow over time.

First day

Well the first morning was really exciting, think of it as 2000 nerds acting as if it was the first day of school!!
Organization is incredible, they managed to control the orde and everything flows smoothly.
Now I am going to revise my talk a little because I saw a bunch of people talking about Marionnet and now I’m pretty nervous :P
Giulia is uploading her (20000) pictures on flickr and I can’t wait to see fosdem people reactions as they are the only fosdem pics as of now.

As a real first post I’m pleased to write that I’m at Fosdem 09!!!

We just arrived (ma and my girlfriend) in Brussels after 4 hours of delay due to bad weather and while we go to catch some dinner we’ll plan the conference.

Probably late this night I’ll practice my (lightning) talk: check it out
